An eclectic May Fair returns to Wivenhoe 12-6pm Sat 26 May 2012

Wivenhoe, Essex, 2 May 2012: Where else but Wivenhoe's May Fair could you get to hear rocking indie bands sharing the stage with an African Kora and some of the finest vocalists in East Anglia?

To celebrate its 30th anniversary the May Fair will be bringing in some of the best and most eclectic local talent on Saturday, 26 May when it stages this year's free community arts and music event.

Aimed at all ages, this year's family friendly charity fund raiser will bring back some of the highlights of its past and promises to be a fantastic afternoon. To celebrate 30 years of promoting peace and love, the organisers are asking festival goers to "fancy their dress" in a 70s vibe with funky flares, glamorous glitter and fabulous flowers. There will be plenty of opportunity (and encouragement) for attendees to glam up when they arrive from the many vintage clothes stalls.

Spread over three stages, as well as a cinema tent, the day will be jam packed with predominately local entertainment ranging from acoustic singer songwriters to rock, reggae and everything in between (see more details of the line up below).

The beer tent, which also raises money for the May Fair by selling real ale from a local award-winning brewery, will be back on the field alongside fantastic food and market stalls, circus acts, bouncy castle, face painting and other activities for children.

As in previous years the community-based festival, which has raised nearly £35,000 for charities since 2000, will be staged between noon and 6pm on the King George V Playing Field in the centre of Wivenhoe and will be collecting money to go towards the supported charities.

The May Fair started as a peace festival in 1982. Although the format of the event changed over the years, the emphasis on providing entertainment while promoting green, organic and sustainable lifestyles remains. Regardless of the weather the festival is always well supported by music and art lovers, many of whom return every year.
